Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I offer free estimates for all customers. I offer discounts for veterans. I always try to give the most accurate estimate possible and. write up detailed proposals So the customer knows what they are paying for and what products I'm using. I am willing to work with with people and I'm open to giving customers a few different options to see what best fits

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Diploma, college, apprentice, 20+ yr, continued ed

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
It started on new builds as a finish carpenter for another contractor. I knew I enjoyed it and we had a good team atmosphere. I learned how to hang doors interior and exterior and French doors. learned trim. baseboard, underlayment, crown molding, cabinets, countertops, window seals. stairs. And with the system we had we got very fast and very good. We'd come back and install knows. closet shelves clots doors etc. sometimes we'd work for another contractor who dud custom finish work and that was a whole bunch more. then we'd do siding jobs, window jobs. flooring. so it was were it all started. I really enjoyed that work and that's were it started.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with customers that genuinely are some of the nicest people I've met. I have been very thankful to do the jobs I have did for the customers I've had over the years. It's certainly not always perfect and I'll admit there's been stressful situations. It's not always easy and some of the best customers I had we may have had a different in opinion or there was something that happened that was out of my control. whether it was a delay do to weather a delay in product. or there was unforseen things that happen sometimes. But it's the people that I was able to communicate with and that they understood things happen. I'm honest and really try to meet deadlines and expectations. That's why I believe planning ahead and having a clear idea of your expectations. Plan for the project in advance. not every job will go smooth. But if you trust a contractor will do the job correct and address any situation that may come along. Then you have a good contractor.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I really liked the deck jobs I've had over the past few years. They were from word of mouth and the customers I worked for were some of the best people I've ever came across. The jobs were large decks and in the heat of summer. they were all unique in there own way. one was on a new build and brand new and had a ramp. one was tieng into an existing deck build and wrapping partially around a swimming pool. And one was a old deck that had a step built in and was all new decking with a cable rail system that looks great. average deck 6 weeks.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Have a good idea of your goals and expectations of your project. Try to be clear what things are important to you and what things you are flexble with. There is not a one size fits all in my industry. My Advice is do as much research as you need to have an idea of what factors will play the most significant part to you and your project. The more you know the better you can find the right fit for your needs. There's definitely not a one contractor fits all.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Every client is going to have unique questions pertaining to them and there specific needs for there project, and truth is alot of questions wont be answered until they meet a contractor to go over the project. I think a big question for customers is.. "How do I know who to hire and if I'm hiring a contractor I can trust"? I think all customers want mostly the same things like timeliness, quality, great craftsmanship, along with friendly, personable, and good communication. The main issue with quality and craftsmanship is there's to many variables to quality. Is one contractor working with people more often on a budget? So he's working with a so called lessor product and then another contractor has worked only with high end top dollar and does thst mean better quality better service....? So a question might be leading you into one direction or another. Another Question did ask is that do you suppose that bye hiring a smaller contractor that you are going to get a better deal? If a customer has a clear and consise understanding of what they get with a bigger company and what they get with a small or single owned company. If all things equal then the logical sense might be its just safer to go with a larger company. So what I ask a customer looking for someone is to ask what it is that makes them choose to do there remodel. And The real question is who they believe will take care of them shall a problem arise. Who can they trust us going to do everything in there power to resolve an issue they are having. First and foremost the customer feels anxious and it's not easy for them to have something happen that is out of there control. And the contractor definetely didn't plan on it. Recently it was brought to my attention from a client that all things aside with it looking great and very happy with the end result and they have hired me for 2 other jobs as well. At first I didn't take it as a strength. But what he meant was that what may have seemed like a bad thing to me. Was actually showing to them they can actually trust me. It was a very good perspective. I obviously strive to do the best I can. I care about my jobs and I care about my customers projects. In this industry no mater how experienced there are going to be things that happen out of your control. It's how you handle them that comes with experience. I look back on the some of the situations and mistakes and I see them different now. I see them as experience and also more of a positive than a negative. So you move on you make things right as best you can and you improve. So for questions a customer should think through. Is what type of contractor they are looking for. There is no real correct answer for each person. I think customers should think about project and what is most important to them. Really be clear in what you want. I recommend if your on a budget clarify and be clear. Don't get 10 people to come out to a job and not expect some very all over the place Estimates. if you are time crunch in a hurry you may need a person with a crew. if you want more personal and like the person that comes and looks at project tinbe doing the work then you may want someone who works more for themselves. if you want affordable you may go with someone who is new to business.
